Episode Transcript
[00:00:08] Speaker A: Hello, and welcome to something new. This is 404, site not found. And today is September 23, 2024.
I am Liam, and I'm joined by Alyssa, and we're trying something new. This is a podcast all about.
Well, really, it's like Seinfeld. It's about nothing. I mean, it's just.
[00:00:27] Speaker B: It's nothing and everything.
[00:00:28] Speaker A: It's us sitting outside having coffee and I guess just picking a random topic and talking about it. So you might want to know, why are we called 404? Site not found? Because it's a horrible name.
[00:00:40] Speaker B: Simple as that.
[00:00:42] Speaker A: Our house number is 404, and we're both blind. If you didn't know that already. Somebody out there is probably listening to this for the first time and is like, going through their podcast directory and is like, okay, world news.
Oh, really? And that's our special guest, next door neighbor dog.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: We don't really have a name for next door neighbor dog.
[00:01:05] Speaker A: Well, we have a name for it, but it's not appropriate for the podcast.
[00:01:07] Speaker B: So we should just call him Fido or something.
[00:01:10] Speaker A: We'll call him Oliver. I don't know Oliver. There actually was. I had members. I had a dog named Oliver, and he barked constantly.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: And one of your games had Oliver the dog.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: He was named after that dog.
So, yeah, we are. Oh, my gosh.
So this is what we deal with. It's a very. Normally, it's a really peaceful street.
This dog barks at everything.
[00:01:37] Speaker B: The idea of this podcast is meant to just be simple, not a lot of editing or anything too crazy, so that it can hopefully be out same day or soon after.
[00:01:49] Speaker A: That's the idea. He doesn't agree with it. That's our program director is interjecting his thoughts.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: Normally, this is not an issue.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: No.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: Hopefully it doesn't become a more regular issue.
[00:02:03] Speaker A: I hope not, because I would really hate to have to walk over there and knock on the door.
And I might do that, by the way, which is probably not good.
[00:02:15] Speaker B: Yeah, we'll talk about that later.
[00:02:19] Speaker A: So, yeah, anyways, today we thought we would talk about the iPhone 16. And you're probably just like, oh, no, not another podcast about the iPhone 16. There's like a million of them. There's like triple swipe and like, you know, banana viz, sightless and dead.
[00:02:41] Speaker B: There's banana vis.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
You know, but no, something that I have seen in the news but I haven't seen a lot about, and I think it's important is the boxes. We keep losing things out of these iPhone boxes.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Started with charging bricks. Yeah.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: I mean, the big thing was the charging brick. We lost the charging brick. Also, we have coffee.
Should point that out.
[00:03:10] Speaker B: Yes. Not on the iPhone box. We're just drinking coffee.
[00:03:14] Speaker A: Yes. This is delicious. Kauai caramel crunch. Coconut caramel crunch coffee or something like that.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: Yes, something like that.
[00:03:22] Speaker A: Pretty good.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: This is what we do.
[00:03:25] Speaker A: This is what we do every morning, honestly. We come out here and we drink coffee. I should say, too, that we are located in Oklahoma City for those that are like, where is this podcast from? And it is currently a balmy 60 degrees with kind of a hear the breeze a little bit on the podcast, trying to shield, but kind of a nice little breeze.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: We also get distracted easily.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: 60 degrees, 15 degrees celsius for you Europeans and Canadians.
So, yes, the boxes, no power blocks. That was kind of the big thing. And it made the boxes way thinner.
[00:04:04] Speaker B: But then we also lost headphones, right?
[00:04:06] Speaker A: That's right. We lost. Yeah, we lost headphones, too. No more earpods. And this year, I think, is the worst of all. We lost the stickers.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, why would we lose the stickers? Yeah.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: To be fair, I didn't know about the stickers. This is kind of a new thing when someone was like, yeah, they're getting rid of the stickers. I was like, what stickers? And then I found out that all these years, I had sticky things that I could stick places, and I don't know what to do with myself.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: Yeah, each iPhone box, they kind of had them in different places within the boxes. I think sometimes it was like a little insert on top of the phone or be, like, right under the phone. And. Yeah, you'd have a little sheet that you pull out of there. And it has two Apple logo giant stickers that you could put on the back of your phone if you want to. People did that. Or put them on the back of their phone cases.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Could you stick on random humans?
[00:04:59] Speaker B: I mean, you could.
[00:05:00] Speaker A: Could we stick them on the program director? That's the question.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: You know, I don't know if there's any ethical blurriness on that one.
[00:05:11] Speaker A: I don't. I don't think PETA's gonna be listening to our podcast. I think we're safe.
You could stick them on your guide dog harness. Look at this. Tying us back to being a blind centric podcast who.
[00:05:23] Speaker B: Yeah, it might be. I think it's a little wide for the guide dog harness, unless you kind of wrap it around, like, the back strap maybe. But then it's not really gonna look like an apple anymore. So do you really want to do that.
[00:05:36] Speaker A: I don't know. I mean, isn't there like a lighter?
I don't know. I'm not a guide dog ologist, really.
[00:05:41] Speaker B: I mean, if you have, depending on, if you put a pouch on there, you might put it on. The pouch?
[00:05:46] Speaker A: Yeah, you put it on like the pouch. Oh, so that's not a standard.
[00:05:49] Speaker B: No, I had a pouch on my retired guide's harness and that was something that I chose to put on there. That was not a standard feature.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: Oh, I thought that was something that was on them. Okay, well, I'm learning, learning new things.
So, yes, no more stickers. And yeah, there's a camera button and there's some other button and who cares?
[00:06:09] Speaker B: Well, there's the same action button they have on the 15 models or they brought the, brought that with.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Okay, who cares? It's all about the stickers.
I think that's what people care about. That's why they tune in. They tune in for real news.
[00:06:27] Speaker B: We are all about giving the people what they want.
[00:06:29] Speaker A: 404 news not found but yeah, it was just kind of a cool idea. We want to try this, see if it works or not. We're going to record one ever every day. But just once there's something interesting to share or something fun or whatever.
[00:06:45] Speaker B: When our program director is quiet long enough for us to record something.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: Don't jinx it. He's, he's like being peaceful now. I think he's happy with it.
[00:06:53] Speaker B: That's good.
[00:06:54] Speaker A: Yeah, he's, he's just like, you know what? This podcast got off to a bumpy start. I needed to let you all know.
[00:07:00] Speaker B: But we are back on track.
[00:07:01] Speaker A: Yeah, that we're back on track.
And so, yeah, one of the things that's cool about here we're not hearing it is there's. Someone's got either a chicken or a dying cat or still.
[00:07:12] Speaker B: Jury's out.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: Jury's out.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: Yeah, that won't happen for about another hour. It seems to be about the same time every day.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: We're out a little earlier than we normally would because we were awake early, because we went better early.
[00:07:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: As these things happen a lot of times on these podcasts, you'll probably hear a bus go. Bye. Usually the bus picks up the little, little kiddies around like 630 in the morning. Yeah.
[00:07:36] Speaker B: Poor kids.
[00:07:37] Speaker A: I never like, I remember being in grade school and I started at nine in the morning.
[00:07:41] Speaker B: So like 830 when I was in high school, I think we started at like about 830. Bus would pick me up about quarter to eight.
[00:07:50] Speaker A: Bus would get me at. Let's see. So high school bus, I think, would come a little early because we.
Morning flap. I never had morning flap class, but, like, school could start at 740. Oh, zero hour, and then we kind of zero. So they. I think my last year, they were redoing the period numbers and stuff, and so one thing they had done was, I think, was every second, every other Tuesday or Wednesday, they would start school late.
[00:08:21] Speaker B: A car.
[00:08:22] Speaker A: Well, there's a car.
Yeah.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: I mean, we are.
We're not close enough to the street for danger, but we are close enough that you definitely hear cars going by.
[00:08:32] Speaker A: We're in a very nice subdivision. It's very quiet, which I realize, you know, program director Oliver made a fool of me.
I'm totally putting him in the credits.
Alyssa Henson, program director Oliver.
[00:08:51] Speaker B: Yes. PDO.
[00:08:53] Speaker A: PDO.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: And, yeah, you might be listening to this going, but you're blind. Don't you need to live in a big city where there's buses?
[00:09:03] Speaker A: That would be nice, but it's also.
[00:09:05] Speaker B: A lot more expensive to do that.
[00:09:07] Speaker A: And we're not, like, in the country, so, I mean, we're in a very good area.
[00:09:10] Speaker B: We're a mile from Walmart. You know, that's. That's how you base I. Where you live. You know? How close is Walmart?
[00:09:16] Speaker A: Yeah, we're a mile from the liquor store.
The important stuff in life.
[00:09:23] Speaker B: But no, there's lots of restaurants, stores.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: Just one thing. And if you're from Oklahoma City, you'll get this better, I think, then not like, because I think most people, especially that are listening this. In big cities going, really? The bus system here is probably 30 years behind every other bus system in the country.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: Most of Oklahoma City is, like, at least 20 years behind. Most of Oklahoma City is.
[00:09:44] Speaker A: But that's.
I don't want to, like, call the entire state out, but I guess I just did.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: There's a certain charm to it, though. It grows on you.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: It does. And honestly, it really does. I mean, I never thought that I would be like, yeah, I'm living in Oklahoma and liking it, but here we are. Yeah. And that's a nice house, and it doesn't suck. So what more can you ask for?
[00:10:10] Speaker B: Lots of good places to eat.
[00:10:13] Speaker A: So if you would like to comment on what you're hearing, please drop us a line. I don't actually. I never thought about that, how they could do that.
We'll figure out something.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: The mastodon channel.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess if you're following, I mean, like, this will be getting posted to lworks games on Mastodon. So I guess reply to the post or something.
[00:10:33] Speaker B: Or if you have ideas about something you'd like to hear. Can't promise it'll happen, but always open to suggestions.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: What would you like to. What would you like us to talk about? Let us know on the listener line we need a listener line, but then.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: I have to, like to answer it and stuff.
[00:10:49] Speaker A: Well, then I have to like, edit in like listener voicemails and stuff, so never mind, we're not doing a listener line that requires work.
[00:10:56] Speaker B: Yeah, just. Just reply to lworks on Mastodon.
[00:10:59] Speaker A: Yeah, lworks games. All in word on masto.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: If you don't have mastodon, maybe we'll spin up an email thing or something.
[00:11:07] Speaker A: I don't know, you could probably. I'm sure there's a way to leave comments in the post. Oh, is that an airplane or is that. Oh, we're not too far from the airport either. So there you go. That's another positive about living in Oklahoma City.
[00:11:20] Speaker B: I don't think there was a car on one of the main drives.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Oh, maybe it was.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: It kind of sounded like an airplane.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: Kind of did.
And I don't think we're too far from Tinker Air Force Base either.
[00:11:34] Speaker B: No, not too far.
[00:11:34] Speaker A: No.
[00:11:35] Speaker B: Like maybe 2030 minutes.
[00:11:36] Speaker A: I almost called it tinkle again, but I caught myself with the last moment. I was like, no, Liam, it's not tinkle Air Force Base. Stop calling it that.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: Yeah, where I used to work. We had a good working relationship. I'm sure they still do. With Tinker credit Union. I was telling Liam about Tinker credit Union and Liam thought I said tinkle.
It's never been the same.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: No, no, it has not.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: I just caught myself.
[00:12:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I could tell you. Really? Tinker? Er, er, not all.
[00:12:11] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, no more tinkering with those apple stickers, am I right?
[00:12:15] Speaker A: No.
I wonder what the transcript for this is going to look like.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: I'll be very curious.
[00:12:22] Speaker A: It's going to be a hot mess, but yeah, we are trying to include. They're going to be auto generated transcripts, but it'll be something because we'd like to be inclusive.
As somebody who is technically deafblind, I do get it that sometimes reading a transcript.
Oh, Alexa, stop.
[00:12:43] Speaker B: She's not gonna hear us from out here.
[00:12:47] Speaker A: Oh, that's the.
[00:12:50] Speaker B: I don't know if you can stop it from your phone.
[00:12:52] Speaker A: I don't think so. It's just gonna go on for 2 hours, I guess. Well, I guess that's letting us know that this is the end of our first episode of 404. Site not found.
We will see you on the next episode.
Good night. And something good. Corn. I use that on streams. I don't know what to say. Goodbye.
[00:13:12] Speaker B: We'll come up with something.
[00:13:13] Speaker A: We're going away.
