[00:00:08] Speaker A: Hello, and welcome to 404. Site not found for. We'll just say, do we know what day? June 21st? Yeah, June 21st, 2025. So we're recording this in the past. Like, it's probably the same day that you're hearing the. If you heard the June 19th one. But. [00:00:33] Speaker B: That'S what we're doing, so. [00:00:35] Speaker A: So we're gonna mount up a camera. [00:00:38] Speaker B: We have ventured outside for this one. [00:00:40] Speaker A: And it's very hot. [00:00:42] Speaker B: There's construction noise a couple doors down across the way. [00:00:48] Speaker A: So I will try to give play by play, as it were. So currently, I'm getting a couple screws out of this bag, and I enjoy diy, but I'm not the greatest at it. I will start by prefacing with that. But this is just mounting two screws onto a. [00:01:22] Speaker B: Onto the wood above the door. [00:01:23] Speaker A: Yeah. So I feel like I can handle that with very few complications. [00:01:34] Speaker B: And you got this handy, dandy electric screwdriver. [00:01:38] Speaker A: I do. So hopefully you enjoyed the Simplisafe podcast. Unfortunately, if we have questions, I can't answer them because we're recording this in the past. It's like back to the future. Yes, Marty, we're going back to the future. [00:02:02] Speaker B: So, yeah, you'll get to hear. You will have heard hopefully by the time you listen to this one, the song that we sang on the last. That kind of leads up to this one. [00:02:16] Speaker A: Yeah, hopefully. All right, so what we're doing is we're taking a look at the camera to see roughly where I want this to go, because there's a separate piece, and once that's mounted in, like, that's. [00:02:37] Speaker B: What the camera goes on. [00:02:38] Speaker A: Yeah. And once that's in. That's in. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Because you do have to use screws. There is no adhesive, and there's a fly buzzing around. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Is there? [00:02:51] Speaker B: Yep. Just one lovely part of the great outdoors. Oh, we have a little breeze that can hear the wind chimes out back. Airplane. [00:03:27] Speaker A: Yeah, we got an airplane going through. I hear that. Okay, so I think I found where we're going with this camera. We're more or less in a good spot. I mean, if it goes a little higher, it goes a little higher. I'm not gonna quibble. I love that word, quibble. [00:03:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a great word. [00:03:59] Speaker A: I'm hoping that this is pretty centered. I'm, like, trying to measure out the. You know what I could do? I could have counted the boards. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. [00:04:26] Speaker B: Of course, it can't be an even number. [00:04:28] Speaker A: So they're not all even, but I think this is gonna be. So they call these screws tap in screws. [00:04:46] Speaker B: What does that mean exactly? [00:04:49] Speaker A: I guess you're supposed to be able to tap them in, but I don't really know how you would do that. So we got a little. It's like a screwdriver. [00:05:03] Speaker C: It's. [00:05:03] Speaker A: It's like a drill, but we don't call it a drill because that would be too easy. Okay, here we go. Oh, so we don't want to do that. We don't want to. I almost lost the screw. We don't want to do that. Oh, and it's. It is trying to get purchase, but it is just not. Oh, well, I think we got it. [00:06:40] Speaker B: So I'm sure this is very exciting. [00:06:46] Speaker A: There's like. Oh, does that, like. So when it thinks that it's, like, locked up, I think it, like, stops. [00:06:56] Speaker B: Oh. [00:07:05] Speaker A: Okay. There's one. [00:07:09] Speaker B: All right. And there's just one more. [00:07:11] Speaker A: Yep, just one more. Let me get that second screw. So I'm not worrying about the. It's a small circle to describe this to you guys. I'm not worried about it being straight on because the camera mount is magnetic and you can turn it. Yeah. See, as soon as it tightens down. [00:08:01] Speaker B: Yes. [00:08:02] Speaker A: Like the. The drill digs out. Almost got. [00:08:12] Speaker B: Just waiting for somebody to walk by on the sidewalk or something. Do you need help? [00:08:26] Speaker A: What are you doing, Mr. Blind Man? [00:08:30] Speaker B: Oh, no big thing. Just on a ladder. [00:08:33] Speaker A: Yeah, just on a ladder. [00:08:36] Speaker B: But this is a nice. [00:08:40] Speaker A: What's that? [00:08:41] Speaker B: This is a nice stable ladder. [00:08:43] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah. You know what? I'm pretty happy with where that's at. [00:09:06] Speaker B: So now time for the camera to go up. [00:09:10] Speaker A: And it's up. [00:09:14] Speaker B: All right. Well, you know what that bird is? Its chirp sounds a bit like referee whistle. Stay much lower pitch. Wonder if it's like a baby blue jay. [00:09:45] Speaker A: I don't know. That's a good question. Though it is a mystery if anyone. [00:09:49] Speaker B: Can identify the bird in this recording. You get the satisfaction of identifying the bird. [00:09:56] Speaker A: Jesus. [00:09:57] Speaker B: What was that? [00:09:58] Speaker A: That. That was the camera almost falling off. [00:10:01] Speaker B: Oh. [00:10:02] Speaker A: So. [00:10:08] Speaker B: Is it not tight enough? [00:10:11] Speaker A: It. This mount is garbage is what it is. So like it. What I want to know is if this mount broke. I. I hope that's stable. Let me take that. Yeah, I mean, I guess that's if you don't mess with it. All right, well, if it works, it works. If it doesn't, that sucks. Oh, of course I didn't put the battery in it. Well, that's okay, so what we're going to do now, here's the question. Can I reach up? Nope. Not easily. Yeah. So let's do the. Adding the camera to our system now. They do make a better mount. And I think what I'm gonna do is get those and get someone to install them for me. Because this. It's like if you unscrew it to the left, the camera's gonna come right off. [00:11:51] Speaker B: Oh, gosh. [00:11:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's not great. [00:11:58] Speaker B: Hopefully it'll stay up there, not fall off. [00:12:05] Speaker A: I think it will. All right, so back here again, going to devices. Add device. Get started. So we kind of know this whole drill. Cameras. So it's an outdoor camera. Series two. Got that. We'll deal with that later. That's a whole different thing. Okay, so that's something we'll have to fix at some point. [00:13:23] Speaker C: Let's go. [00:13:24] Speaker A: Let's go. [00:13:26] Speaker C: Camera placement considerations. If you plan to enroll this camera. Active guard outdoor protection, you'll need to plug it into an outlet with auto door power cable. Continue button. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Which we will Done. [00:13:43] Speaker C: Insert the next one. Insert the battery with the charging contacts lined up with the ones on the inside of the camera. So attach the front camera to the housing by twisting it clockwise until it clicks into place. [00:13:53] Speaker A: Yeah. So that they want me to put the battery in now. So I'm gonna have to go up and pull the camera down. Just a moment. Oh, God. My. That's my pocket. [00:14:09] Speaker B: Oop. [00:14:17] Speaker A: There we go. Yeah, I just turned that a little bit and it came right off. Ah, talk it slower. All right, so we're going to put the battery in. There's a cool little tag on here that you would pull to get the battery out. There we go. And yeah, though the front of the camera comes off. There we go. And it's probably going to bleed. I assume it is. So we're going to say yes. Huh? [00:15:07] Speaker B: We got a sound, so. Okay. [00:15:17] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I heard that. We heard that from inside. [00:15:21] Speaker B: Yes. [00:15:34] Speaker C: Connect button camera WI fi Now connecting to WI fi. Bill Wy. The Science fi. [00:15:39] Speaker A: Yes. Our wireless is Bill Wy. The Science Fi. [00:15:43] Speaker B: Because we're that awesome. [00:15:45] Speaker A: I don't know if I would go that far, but we're something. [00:15:49] Speaker B: Someone's got to believe it. [00:15:50] Speaker C: It might as well be us. [00:15:55] Speaker A: Well, I think I'm close enough. 30ft. Oh, don't make me have to download updates. It's hot out here. [00:16:08] Speaker C: This may take a few minutes. The light on the front of the camera may change colors during this process. Progress 4%. This may take a Checking for updates. Ellipsis. [00:16:17] Speaker A: I'm gonna put the camera back up. That's what I'm gonna do. Oh, wait. Oh, no. I don't want to hit the close button. [00:16:28] Speaker C: Keeping the battery fully charged allows us to act. If this camera will be enrolled in active guard outdoor protection. Make sure that the outdoor power cable reaches 65 for camera, please. Progress. [00:16:35] Speaker B: You want me to hold your phone while you put that up so your pocket doesn't activate things? [00:16:40] Speaker C: This may take a few minutes. [00:16:43] Speaker A: Sure. Here you go. There you go. [00:16:54] Speaker B: Yes. That's our, like, sonar finders. Don't know how, but it works. [00:17:06] Speaker A: Yeah, it really does. That's the scary thing. Okay, I'm gonna get the camera back up on the door. [00:17:16] Speaker B: Yep. I just didn't want your pocket to tap the close button or something while you're doing that and, like, cancel the entire process, which would suck. Yeah, sorry. This one's got a little more dead air than usual. [00:17:42] Speaker A: Yeah, it's just. [00:17:44] Speaker B: Just the nature of this is taking a little bit of thought and concentration. We got cars going by. It's another day in the neighborhood. [00:18:11] Speaker A: All right. It is up. It really is aiming down. I'm hoping it's gonna see stuff. Why does checking for updates take so long? [00:18:25] Speaker B: Is it too far from the base station? No. [00:18:27] Speaker A: I don't know. It's just like checking, checking, checking. [00:18:36] Speaker C: Light on the front of the camera may change colors during this process. [00:18:39] Speaker A: Oh, and I just pulled the plastic off the front, so that's good. [00:18:44] Speaker B: Yeah, it's leaning down. I wonder if there's. If you're supposed to somehow rotate it up or if that's just how it's. [00:18:49] Speaker A: No, it looks down, so it's. It's like looking down on the front of the house. [00:18:55] Speaker B: So I guess it would theoretically see somebody that was, like, walking up to the. [00:19:00] Speaker A: I would think so. Yeah. And then we got the power cable, but that. I will do that when it's cooler out. [00:19:09] Speaker B: Yes. [00:19:10] Speaker A: It's got to go into this box on the wall. Yep. Then I gotta figure out how to get the cord, like, all the way back. [00:19:25] Speaker B: So that we're not opening the door and getting. Getting hit by the cord. [00:19:29] Speaker C: Yep. [00:19:30] Speaker B: Because I know the camera is, like, above the door. It's not on the door, but. [00:19:33] Speaker A: Oh, I can run the cord along the ground and clip it to the wall and then run it up. Yeah, I think I know how I can do that. I don't think that's going to be hard. I'm just going to want to make it low profile. Looking so it's not like hanging out. Of course. All right, so our camera's getting updates. Yeah. They make a really nice mount that goes on and the camera actually screws into it. There's like a. It's almost like the stand for the phone. [00:20:10] Speaker B: And is that Simplisafe makes that or. [00:20:12] Speaker A: Is there another one that. Okay, they make it. But I would probably get help putting that one up because I think that requires a couple screws and stuff. [00:20:23] Speaker B: Oh, it just dinged. Something just dinged. [00:20:26] Speaker A: Oh, okay. All right. Well, we're getting there. So. Yeah. Hopefully you guys are enjoying this. I mean, I don't think it's exciting, but I thought people have really requested this stuff. Yeah, I mean, you guys want to hear this? Well, Jerry wanted to hear it. [00:20:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Really? [00:20:47] Speaker A: It was really Jerry's fault. [00:20:48] Speaker B: So is this podcast shout out to Jerry? [00:20:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:54] Speaker B: Well, the first one is. We just got a ladder. [00:20:56] Speaker A: We just got a ladder. We just got a ladder. All right. [00:21:14] Speaker C: When ready, Tab. Begin testing. Begin testing. If you see this camera without door protection, make sure it's letting reach of a power outlet. Begin testing. Camera connection. Second connection. Alexis. [00:21:32] Speaker A: Towards the ground. Camera is. We'll do it later. It may have detected motion. Oh, I know why. Because they expect that you haven't put the camera up yet. Oh, okay. [00:22:09] Speaker B: So we did this little backwards. [00:22:23] Speaker A: So even they realize that their camera mount sucks. [00:22:28] Speaker B: Understood. [00:22:29] Speaker A: Okay, so it's making me. We're just going to run until you hear a click. Until you hear a click. I never heard a click. [00:23:23] Speaker C: Motoring purposes. Connecting. Exit button. Connecting. [00:23:29] Speaker A: I hope that this worked. Okay. Cuz it's. It's like connecting. Connecting. Connecting. I will deal with that later. We can add it later. Okay, so let me look at this. I'm going to climb back up one more time because apparently it was supposed to click into place and I'm here to say that it did not. [00:24:25] Speaker B: That made some sort of noise. [00:24:27] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Got it. Okay, that ain't going nowhere now. There we go. Excuse me. I'm adjusting the camera. Really? That's. That's what I'm doing. [00:25:00] Speaker B: That's good. [00:25:06] Speaker A: So I say 30 degrees. Yeah, I think like that. Yeah. So you had to twist it till it clicked in. Now. Now it's staying on that mount. It ain't going anywhere. [00:25:20] Speaker B: Okay. [00:25:20] Speaker A: I was worried at first. [00:25:22] Speaker B: This is why we read the instructions. [00:25:24] Speaker A: Yes. All right. All right, so let's see what happens. So now we can go to the cameras tab. And we have a camera. So we have front door. [00:26:06] Speaker B: Oh, we're getting a horrible feedback. So it's working? [00:26:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, we can record. Okay, so our camera's good. [00:26:34] Speaker B: Awesome. [00:26:35] Speaker A: Okay, so we have a camera. I will need to get someone to, like, look and make sure, like, hey, it's looking out and looking good. But I think it's pretty solid. Okay, so things are good. We've got camera mounted. [00:26:52] Speaker B: We're gonna probably hook one up in the back at some point. But that is not gonna be today. [00:26:55] Speaker A: No, I'm done for now. [00:26:58] Speaker B: It's warm and you've been moving around, so I can only imagine how much warmer it is. Time to go in and have a glass of water. [00:27:04] Speaker A: So I want to thank you guys for listening and. Or watching or something. [00:27:09] Speaker B: Oh, you can't watch this. [00:27:10] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:27:11] Speaker B: I mean, you can play it on YouTube. That's good. Still just audio. [00:27:14] Speaker A: It's probably a good thing. So. Yeah, thanks for tuning in. We'll have another episode sooner than later, I'm sure. And we will see you when we see you here on 404. Site not found.
